Every nation's economy is supported in part by the transport industry. In social and commercial activity, the transportation system allows for the movement of people and things. The majority of tasks are automated in both industry and transportation. GIS is a computer system used for environmental evaluation, transportation safety, route planning, highway maintenance, accident analysis, and construction management. The use of GIS in transportation is described in the sections that follow.

The two main purposes of using GIS are map visualization and data integration.

GIS provides a platform for transport planners who utilize data analysis to identify potential issues with their plans. These issues can then be resolved by combining GIS with data on land use, population density, travel patterns, etc. Compared to conventional applications, this method is effective and economical and the preparation of transport and planning policies.
